ITF TAEKWON-DO.
Taekwon-do has a distinctive visual identity. In competition, both uniform and protective equipment follow specific requirements.

HISTORY AND RULES.
A white dobok makes movement visible. A high kick, a turn or a controlled stop becomes sharply defined. The uniform is also part of the competition rules: its appearance, markings and model must suit the event.
A sport with its own history
The name taekwon-do was adopted in 1955. ITF was founded on 22 March 1966, and its first World Championships took place in Montréal in 1974. This history underpins an international competition format with shared standards for uniforms and protection.
Check both the brand and model
ITF’s official equipment list names models, not just suppliers. Its TOP TEN list includes Superfight 3000 hand protection, several foot protectors, headguards and doboks. Another item from the same brand does not automatically share that approval.
What do the competition rules say?
Version 2026-1 requires approved models from approved manufacturers. Sparring uses red or blue hand, foot and head protection. The rules also address mouthguards and other protection. Dobok markings and their placement are covered in a separate appendix.
Use the equipment list as a reference when your club plans an order. Compare the model name and variant with the dealer’s listing, and read the competition invitation. This gives you more reliable information than a logo alone.
A practical starting point
Ask your club to make separate lists for uniforms and protective equipment. Check both against event requirements before a group order.
